On Saturday, August 17, the AMAAD Institute in partnership with the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health and the Black and African Heritage Cultural Communities Subcommittee is excited to launch one of its newest projects, ReFRESH-- Reentry Finding Restoration, Establishing Self-Help.
ReFRESH is a reentry training and mentoring academy designed to create and enhance access to culturally relevant, reentry services for Black and African American communities. Participants, known as Community Facilitators, will receive $25 for completion of each session (up to $175 total). ReFRESH is led by AMAAD’s Behavioral Health Team and a team of community reentry experts.
The curriculum consists of 7 two-hour sessions, with such topics as physical and emotional health, healthy relationships, and reclaiming your narrative as well as technical skills building such as financial health and obtaining and sustaining employment.
Following completion, Community Facilitators will then have the opportunity to host their own community conversations to share and highlight their own stories and learnings to their own communities. Community Facilitators will receive $125 for each community conversation they host.
Join the team at the ReFRESH mixer on August 17 at the AMAAD Institute at 12:00 to learn more about the project, meet the team, and to be a part of the first community conversation entitled Self-Love.
